First, you need to understand that Ed Markey (Congressman from Massachusetts) has served in elected office longer than I believe automobiles have been on the road. Second, you need to understand he is a leftwing fruitcake and third...well, you get the picture; not exactly anyone who has an opinion on wolves we should listen to.

There are better ways to control problem wolves than to have a hunting and trapping season. Actually, the great wolf hunt CA E back because of farmers losing calves. The method of professionals shooting or trapping rogue wolves was working just fine. Some hunters that hate wolves as competition jumped on the bandwagon. As I was told years ago by a politician- the world is run by those that show up. Today that includes E-mail too. The hatred some hunters have for wolves is illogical. It must be something taught to them. Stop the hunt immediately. These magnificent creatures also have an important place in our Northwoods. Wolf hunters that blame wolves for their failure to get a deer, or enough deer- can go to the grocery store. The DNR should not be taking money from people to kill things they do not eat. The state's wildlife belongs to all of us. The DNR has failed miserably of late in their management of animals and fish. Stocking Muskies in the lake I live on (Vermilion) is good example. Less walleyes, loons and ducks. Muskies are an invasive species that get bopped on the head.

I have not liked Congress as of late but this move to actually save the wolves and make the ecosystem healthier could change my mind.

The real issue is the expanding human population and resultant homesteads in previously unoccupied lands. Wolves are not compatible with pets, livestock and - rarely, people. The belief that wolves only kill the old and sick is baloney. They kill anything that moves, young, old, and healthy.

I've hunted my whole life and I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to shoot a wolf. I hear some hunters say wolves are the reason they dont get a deer or the reason they don't fill all their tags. These are the same guys who drive 4 wheelers to their stands or drink until the wee hours of the night then stumble out to their stands like a heard of buffalo, those darn wolves! I have seen wolves while I have been in my stand and consider myself fortunate to have witnessed them and feel nothing but respect for these animals that hunt for survival as opposed to me hunting for sport.
