A weekend meeting failed to produce consensus on how to fit walkers and snowmobilers into the same park space.

It's always the motorized folks crying for "multi-use," but once the non-motorized ask for equal access, they suddenly demand exclusivity.

As a former officer with the Three Rivers Park District, all it takes is a little complaining by the general public to the park board. The TRPD Park Board and administration is so wishy washy when it comes to complaints they receive, that they cannot make a decision and stick with their decision. As an officer, we were told to enforce the rules and ordinances within the parks and its trails with written documentation, but when people started complaining after they received either a written warning or citation, the administration started to back pedal and gave a directive, for the most part, to be less active. Then when the officers take a hands off approach, the administration will receive a complaint and BOOM, the officers are not doing enough. The TRPD Park Board and administration must learn how to make a decision and stick with it, rather than changing directions with the wind.

I was there; the meeting you describe is different from the one I recall. I thought it was fairly amicable. You have sensationalized it in your reporting, and use adjectives that indicate a bias against snowmobiles. The trail near the houses has a 15 MPH speed limit, hardly a place where snowmobiles roar by. Most snowmobiles are quieter than many motorcycles! The walkers WANT to share a trail with snowmobiles. Why, if they are so dangerous and annoying?

There is a sidewalk to the walking trails that is not maintained in the winter. If it were cleared the problem would be solved.
