Slama is a bullpen long shot but stays confident

The reliever’s numbers show an ability to get hitters out, but staying healthy may be what earns him a roster spot.

Ryan can say "nobody cares" that Slama only throws 88 MPH, but he was passed over time and time again with no other explanation, other than an unfortunate name for a pitcher.

There is something else going on. Slama has been the most dominant and consistent reliever in the Twins minor league organization for several years. Nonetheless, the big club ignores him. Lavelle: what is the real story? Just sayin'. Over and out.

If he's healthy, not giving him a shot is ridiculous, based solely on his numbers. Yeah, the minors aren't the bigs, but his numbers warrant a shot.

Too bad the Twins can't develop a dominant pitcher. Sounds like another journeyman to me.

With the amount of crap the Twins have trotted out to the mound the last 2 years, he at least deserves a legitimate shot in the majors. He just might be better than some of those other stiffs. His minor league numbers should have earned him a shot.

Arms, arms, arms......bring him up and try him out also......Not a thing to lose....why not???

It seems the Twins consider him "injury prone" and are afraid to call him up. Line drives off your leg are fluke accidents. Also last time I checked the Twins lead the world in Tommy John surgeries so don't play the injury prone card please. Not getting a call last September was baffling to say the least. This year they have Swarzak, Wood, Roenicke, and Pressy all out of options or rule 5. Clearly not all of these guys can make the team so there will likely be open 40 man spot or 2. Maybe Slama can snag one spot and start in AAA and be a mid season call up. He seems like a good guy but most importantly he gets guys out! The same can't be said about numerous pitcher the Twins have used over the past 2 years.

he's got pretty good stuff.. Locating the pitches is key! Brad Radke never blew guys away.. pitch smart and with good location. study those hitters!

It's always been a mystery to me why they won't give him a shot. His high k/9 ratio? Punto forgot to give Slama the pictures of Gardy? Slama once dated one of Terry Ryan's daughters and it ended badly? His inability to color coordinate his wardrobe? We'll probably never know the real reason.

It's an indictment on Gardy and his staff. He has his guys, and for whatever reason Salama is not one of them. Neshek was killing it in 2005/2006 and part of 2007 before being brought up (at age 27, way too late). They didn't like his velocity and delivery, despite his crazy numbers. Look how he did pre-surgery (again a misdiagnosis by the twins). He was dominant. The fact that Salama has had two very brief callups, can explain, in a nut shell, why the Twins are where they are at. Let's put Gray and other crappy guys from other organizations on our 40 man for half the year, but not Salama, when all he does is dominate. I feel bad for the kid, as he has done everything that has been asked.
