Best Buy ends flexible work program for its corporate employees

Honestly..... now every lackluster CEO will *have* to follow suit... just for the CYA aspect of it alone. Your work at home employees didn't get you in to this mess in the first place!! I worry that you don't really understand what your co. needs, if you think this will bring your solution. I agree that your top 50 or so decision makers probably need to be talking every day. But requiring your rank and file to be in every day??? dunno bout that. I find it ironic that these co.'s want to effect some sort of wonderful turnaround, embrace social media, 'innovate', etc.,. and yet they still just use the same ole hammer, to fix every problem. Maybe working from home (and understanding that audience/consumer!?) is just the thing you need? I'll give you that one for free Hubert. Your welcome.

While it most likely sucked to be let go, after being let go from a major airline myself I honestly think it's harder being left behind. Whether it be the reactive/childish "all hands on decks" rules, double work, the brain drain, perpetual fear of losing your job next, etc....it's harder to be the ones left behind. My condolences to those left behind.

Good for BBB. Based upon the preceding comments ... it is too much to ask of an employee to show up at his/her place of employment. Talk about a sense of entitlement.

As an aside... how come there is never an honest, open conversation about what happens at a co., when the super well compensated exec's decide to outsource to an outfit Accenture? (not picking on Accenture specifically). But these exec's are well paid... presumably cause they know how to run a business. Yet, when they outsource like they did at BBuy... it often seems like mgmt has just given up with the day to day running of the company! They throw up their hands, shrug their shoulders, and say... lets get someone else to do (IT, phones, fill-in-the-blank, etc) Then they do the 'E-Trade baby shocked face' when it doesn't go well. How could it have ended any other way???

Actually, ROWE worked to reduce turnover, promotes wellness, reduced work-family conflict. Dr. Phyllis Moen from the UofM did the research. But I suppose that all goes out the window when you're struggling for survival.

I've heard lots of comments about lazy teachers in the workplace. I will label Best Buy employees who grumble about this new policy lazy. What? I have to work 40 hours?

cayshed got it right. Get to work and start acting like a team. Flex hours end up being unproductive workers with amazing excuses for being late or leaving early. Clock in; Clock out.

Yahoo decides that employees must come back to the office in order for the company to function more efficiently. Best Buy decides everyone should be there at the same time for basically the same reasons. One thing for sure -- the folks who get paid to run their companies have the right to make these decisions. I'm over 40, so I only know how to work one way -- as part of a team and with the interaction of the other people.
