Hartman: Gophers shoot for sixth seed in Big Ten tournament

If the team plays well, as in its past two victories, Minnesota could go on another postseason tear as they did in the NIT last year.

Sixth seed. They sure are aiming high.

Sixth seed? Really? What a disappointment. Whatever happened to expectations and higher standards? Especially for a team that started the season so well and was once ranked in the top 10. There needs to be some higher standards and accountability at the U regarding the basketball programs. Both men and women.

Only Sid Hartman is impressed that the Gophers won games in NIT last year.

"Gophers coach Tubby Smith said the 6-7 Williams was helped by starting at small forward instead of power forward against Penn State."... And helped by playing Penn State, who is 1-12 in the Big Ten, instead of Ohio State.

Only 1 of Nebraska's 4 big men(Ubel)gets real minutes, so it should be a fairly even match-up technically. The deal-breaker will be coaching for metal readiness - if MN goes in and ignores Nebraska and plays the game ignoring NE pace, MN should come out with a W; if MN goes in and tries to counter Nebraska's emotion and is reactive to NE emotion all game, it may not be so nice.

The fact that the 14th ranked RPI team can only finish as high as 6th puts into perspective how tough the Big 10 is this year.

RPI is a farce. It only looks at wins and losses. It doesn't take into account how bad the losses were or how they've played recently. Until they can orchestrate an offense, they are not a top 25 team. I wouldn't bet my money on them beating either Neb, or Purdue.

Give Tubby another contract exstention! This man has earned it! LOL. He will win just enough games to be kept and the gophers are stuck with him.

I wish the Gophers well. Unless their guard play gets better, this team is not going very far in the tourney. Trevor and Rodney can only carry them so far. The Hollins boys need to play like them did in December and early January if the Gophers have any hope. Trevor will play well no matter. Rodney needs top go to the hoop a little more. They need to start Eliason rather then Coleman. Coleman could be first off the bench. He needs to get some confidence.

6th seed = dissapointing season. Reading their comments it seems that they think they are better than they actually are. Overconfidence might be an issue with this team. Yet, Tubby constantly says the team needs to build confidence. Just another example of disconnect between coach and players.
