Never happen. Canadian? Latin American? Possibly. But an American on the Throne of Peter casts the Papacy in a whole new light: it is, in a nutshell, the difference between "The Pope is American" and "An American is Pope". It is all in where you put the emphasis. All of a sudden who the Pope is matters more than what he does, and the cooler more conservative heads in the College of Cardinals would never allow this to happen.
