70K per officer? You have to wonder-the wage in California for beginning officers is only 43K. Often times the senior patrol are sent to the school and they are the highest priced. Why not the starting officers?

This is only a problem if people see it as a problem. The solution is simple. Recruit a few teacher volunteers in each school, train them, and arm them. There are sure to be far more volunteers than would be needed. Problem solved.

Just ask the NRA for the money.

So when these teacher volunteers are wandering around the halls playing Wyatt Earp, who is teaching their classes? Since all teachers I know work Monday through Friday, they'd have to take vacation (for which they are rightfully paid) to "volunteer" and then the district would have to pay another teacher to cover for that teacher's "volunteering"...

Am I correct in observing that no school possessing an armed security of as few as 1, has never been the target of attack by the bad guys with guns? The federal building in Oklahoma City wa protected by cops, and Timothy McVeigh knew he had to make the tragic change to fertilizer. Ideally, we'd have a focus on the perpetrators, rather than the tools.

administrative layers have doubled and tripled in schools over the last decade, maybe do without one tenth of one percent of do nothing cash hogs and make sure our children have protection?

I know! Lets put federally funded TSA goons in the schools! It won't cost the local taxpayers a cent. At the same time we could inculcate the kids at an early age, that it is normal to be searched by the police and there is no expectation of privacy. If it saves just one life...

Do you want more school protection? Or do you want budget cuts? Make up your minds, folks, one cannot co-exist with the other.

Neither students, permit to carry holders (such as security guards) or criminals are allowed to have guns on school grounds in Minnesota! So there is nothing to worry about and we don't need police in schools for security because schools are "safe" gun free zones (at least to if you buy into the gun control crowd.) Didn't I just read that violent crime in Hennepin County went down another 37% and the carry permit rate went up by about that much.

Outside of the "counselor" type benefits police in our schools have done as much "life saving" as taking our shoes off at the airports. It's a reaction to a problem that is not really a problem. Look at real numbers people, you're all freaking out over nothing.
