For an $85 billion cut out of a $1200 billion operating budget?. A 7% cut for 20% plus expected deficit is a bad idea?.. And - who on the planet does not think that the heads of the various departments cut the items that would cause most dramatic press?... "Hey boss, I checked and we can cut those making above $100,000 by 10% and some of the legislator's pork programs like the one for studying the effect of bird feeders on squirrel behavior, and not have much effect on the program goals"..."No way! Are you nuts? Cut anything having to do with babies, the elderly and the homeless and get some press for us on this. You can bet the house that DOD will be docking carriers instead of destroyers, and cutting back on anything that will get press. We have to keep our turf on this"... Ya think?... Live with the smaller budget. Cut back on 7% of what you do. Don't fill positions as people retire. If a 7% cut in the Federal budget cripples this country, we were in far deeper trouble than anyone knew.
