Wow. Still in denial and blaming everyone else for his problems that he creates on his own.

Gotta say I respect this guy. He's paying a real price for standing up for his mental illness, and he perseveres through it, through the hating. Most interesting man in the NBA. I ran into him last year in Iowa, right before the draft, nicest guy ever to my kids. He made some mistakes as a kid, who doesn't? Cyclone fans absolutely adore him. Best thing he did was get out of MN.

Good article. For all of Royce's faults I think he comes across as well spoken and sincere in what he believes. You have to give him credit for that. He seems to be able to articulate things better than the average pro sports athlete.

Royce seems like a good guy, is obviously smart, and I have no doubt his illness is genuine. But these NBA teams won't believe he's worth the bother for another contract if he can't show he can be a reliable team player. He claims he'll be OK if he doesn't last long in the NBA. What I don't get though is why -- since he knew the rigors of the NBA schedule and flying around the country constantly -- did he leave Iowa State after only 1 year? Why was he so eager to leave to leave and yet unwilling to accept that the league is a certain way and it's unlikely to change for him?

Little, if anything, will come of White's aspirations to become a philanthropist, politician and spokesperson for mental health issues unless and until he takes his job seriously (as a business, as his coach says), gets in better physical shape, and lets his performance speak for itself.

How did he get from place to place while playing at Iowa St.? You still have to fly whether its college ball or professional.

That young man needs a taste of reality. Ghandi didn't give him special gifts nor did Paul Wellstone. They are human beings, so forget about idolizing humans and make your own mark, and for you, right now it's basketball.

Everybody else is still responsible for White's behavior and decisions. He's a perfect, and by his own making, a very visible example of what comes out of growing up in an entitlement society. "It's my right", therefore no need for personal responsibility in solving his individual issues. Society is to blame. As he suggests, liberal politicians like Wellstone probably would be in his corner. One begets the other.

Why is there so much hate for Royce White? This young man is doing what he thinks is right, raising awareness and very much placing his whole lifes dream in jeopardy. To me that is admirable, not a thing to deride like so many of these posters. We "love" rapists, cheaters, murderers, out and out jerks everywhere in the world of sports, yet a kid trying to raise awareness on mental health is this hated by the masses. Good for you Royce! Keep speaking out! Saw this young man on Dr. Phil and he was articulate and honest. This is a real man facing real issues and not playing pretend like so many do and he has my respect for it.
