My parents are concentration camp survivors with no family as they were all hanged, shot by firing squad, went to the gas chambers and were buried in mass graves or burned in crematoria, their ashes floated to the heavens. Isreal is being notoriously threatened by its neighbors to suffer the same. The writer never mentions this.

“You can’t make peace using military means,” says Avi Dichter, director from 2000-2005. It was ever thus, and ever thus shall be.

Some, including Yaakov Peri, who led from 1988-1994, lament missed opportunities. “There were plenty of instances since 1967, when, in my opinion, and I thought it then, too, we should have reached an agreement and got out [of Palestine].” Wisdom withers on the vine.

The sad story of the Holocaust did not give Israeli's the right to submit the Palestinians to rights violations. When the West Bank squatters went there and rented property then refused to leave, the government defended them and more settlers went there displacing the Palestinians. I am not a supporter of Hamas or the Palestinians but when Israeli's themselves have recognized that they acted improperly, and Tom Friedman wrote of it more than a decade ago, the U.S. should not and cannot support their actions. Instead, we were silent and let the problem fester to what we now have. Pity.
