Minnesota soldiers deploy to Afghanistan

Soldiers from a Minnesota-based National Guard unit are scheduled to leave on Sunday for training and a one-year deployment to Afghanistan.

National guard? Say what?! What part of "national" does Obama not understand? Seems like he's interested in calling them "international guard". As expected "change you can believe in". Oh well..just 4 years left of this. sigh..

I'm just curious how many people who voted for Obama expected him make these kinds of decisions his second term. Like sending troops back, higher taxes on EVERYONE, constant campaigning, shifting the focus on other issues than our economy, you get the point. When you don't have to worry about reelection anything goes.

cordyceps, It was the Republican George W Bush/Cheney who started this travesty/business of using the National Guard for his foreign adventures. If they need an army, get an army, and institute Selective Service/National Service for BOTH men and women. As Kerry said, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam". What are we doing there anyway ? The minute we leave it's all going to implode. The whole world knows that. What a waste of lives, and time, and money and energy. How do we know in 30 years, the ex-Sec of Defense, (just like McNamara did) won't say "It was all a terrible mistake" ?
