I wish the members of the legislature would just say what they really think...which is either, it's Sunday(the Sabbath) or you drunks don't need another day to get booze, so plan ahead. This excuse of hurting the poor hard working people that would have to work one more day is a joke.

They simply don't care what the voters say, they only care where their next campaign check is coming from.

If you don't want places to be open on Sunday; don't patronize them. Keeping the Sabbath day holy is in the top 10. A friend worked at a restaurant & had to work an occasional Sunday. A customer, ironically coming in for brunch after church, chastized her for working on Sundays. She failed to see the error in her logic.

If the members of the legislature actually said what they meant, they would say "Hey, I'm taking all this money from the liquor store lobby, and there's no money in voting the other way."

Someone from the Star Tribune should investigate which legislators are taking campaign money from the liquor store lobby and publish the list. This is government at its worst.

Well, most liquor stores are either locally owned or owned by a city. Since for the majority of the state, being open on Sunday would only mean that Saturday and Monday sales wouldn't be as frantic as people realize they are running low. Those sales would be spread out over seven days and require an entire day of staffing. That increases the costs without any revenue bump. For those cities that are located close enough to a neighboring state that allows Sunday liquor sales, that might be a boon. But for the majority of liquor stores, it would just be a sinkhole for expenses with nothing to show for it in the end. And really, what does giving a day off to our sellers of alcoholic beverages take away from us? You can always frequent the local bar and give some business their way while getting to know your community.

When Massachusetts repealed its blue law prohibiting Sunday retail sales, they put in a provision requiring retail workers be paid time and a half on Sundays.
