Chiefs make out like a bandit on this one. The get the sometime starting quarterback of a Super Bowl team and only have to give up a worthless second rounder. Now, the have the AFC's top Rusher and a quarterback with a 104.4 rating, which would be good for second in the AFC, and a veteran coach who has had considerable success, and still have that number one overall pick. Chiefs are sitting pretty and should be favored to make the playoffs.

We're talking about a quarterback that has been in the league for 8 years with up and down success. A lot of Viking fans are ready to give up on Ponder after his up and down success over a two year period. Smith is also feeling that he has waited long enough to be a starter. He isn't going to be OK sitting on the bench behind Ponder. That second round pick is also #33 in the draft right? What would the Vikings have had to give up to match that? Maybe their second and the 4th they got from Detroit last year? Ouch. If the Vikings could at least do some modest patchwork in free agency on defensive tackle and middle linebacker there could be some flexibility with taking a quarterback in the draft with real upside that would be able to really challenge Ponder. After Ponder works with an improved offense during the coming season we'll know if Ponder needs to be replaced anyway. Not having a consistent deep go-to-guy for a wide receiver would make it difficult for any quarterback and that was Ponder's situation last year.
