" It would bar sales, manufacturing and imports of semiautomatic rifles and pistols that can use detachable magazines . . . " Excuse me, but that IS 100% of ALL semi auto pistols. Right there, for everyone to see - a naked Gun Confiscation bill. PAy attention people- the Liberals ARE out to take away ALL guns. Read what I quoted above again.

Looks like I'll need to get my musket, powder, cap and ball out while criminals, authorities and the government get the latest weapons man can design.

He's suffered a tragedy and that is terrible. No one should have to deal with that sort of thing. What he is asking is not legal in the US. The one has zero bearing on the other. And I noticed that the MN Supremes got one wrong today on felons and the second amendment, but we were not allowed to comment on that in the piece.

No one should have to bury a child, however no one should be able to stand on the back of these children in order to take away our rights. These shootings are a symptom of a much larger problem in our society, and untill we start working on combating the problem ie(lack of morals, and mental health) we will never stop the these killings.

The second amendment states the right to bear arms. Nowhere in the amendement does it say what kind/variety/model of arms people have the right to bear. There is absolutely NO reason at all for ANYBODY to own an AR-15, an Uzi, an AK 47, or a grenade launcher. Let us start with requiring background checks on 100% of sales, whether it's from a licensed gun dealer or at a gun show or between two private parties. Then let us work on getting weapons that have no purpose other than to fire as many bullets in the shortest amount of time and kill as many people as possible out of circulation. Let us start with those two areas and go from there.

"There is absolutely NO reason at all for ANYBODY to own an AR-15, an Uzi, an AK 47, or a grenade launcher." - The constitution says the people have a right to do so, you may not legally deprive the people of that right though any less an action than a constitutional amendment. Any lesser attempt would be an act of civil war against the people. Rebellion against the people. This father is asking for rebellion and the people will have none of it.

i don't know about all the panic here. From my shotguns, to my semi auto rifle for hunting, to my semi auto target hand gun, to my 357 revolver; none of my guns would be banned, and my self defense isn't really being threatened. i think we shoul appreciate a truly heartfelt effort by a father to prevent future tragedies. I would say half the gunowners or more, are moderate to liberal politically. The hate, fear and panic about losing a right to own the military type weapons is generated from fear. A healthy discussion would perhaps be one part of a solution that is obviously multi-faceted and no sure thing. We need to try, and should appreciate these parents; who probably are on both sides of the issue.

another father in Newtown who lost his 6 year old son in the shooting said banning guns and/or assault rifles is not the answer. He said somehow we in this country have lost civility, we need to become civil again.

Right on JP! It's easier to get an Uzi or AR-15 than it is to get a driver's license or register to vote in the South. At a minimum, it should be damn difficult to be able to obtain one of these killing machines and better yet to just outright ban them. And BTW for all the Bubbas out there that are fearful of the government, good luck aiming your assault weapon when you have an AC-130 gunship raining artillery fire on you. It ain't happenin.
