Details emerge for playoffs, schedules in proposed realignment

There would be four divisions -- two in the Eastern Conference and two in the Western Conference. The top three teams in each division would make the playoffs, according to a memo obtained by Canada's TSN, with two wild-card spots awarded in each conference to round out the 16 teams.

I like our division much better but why move 2 teams to the east? If you leave either Columbus or Detroit in the west you don't have an unfair advantage for west teams to make the playoffs. Seems dumb that over 57% of west teams will make the playoffs but only 50 in the east. And why not just have the top 8 teams make the playoffs? The wild cards seem confusing and kind of dumb. If six teams in one division are amount the top eight in the conference why shouldn't they all make the playoffs?

Glad for the change but it does seem like keeping Detroit or Columbus in west keeps balance and wild cards should be regardless of division. Just happy we don't have to watch 9:30 PM games anymore.

The NHL playoff format wasn't broke, so why fix it? There were easier ways for re-alignment to move Winnipeg to the West and Detroit to the East, but again the league has botched it.
