If this ELCA pastor wants to open up his home for others by following what he believes to be true, I fully support him in it. When he wants to use government to FORCE all of us to fund his objectives, which are based on his religion, then he has gone too far. Furthermore, the ELCA is a shrinking, possibly dying, denomination. Why would we as a country want to follow one of its leaders?

The facts in this article are indisputable. What is disputable is the interpretation. Some would insist the sun rises in the west, the earth is flat, Elvis Presley and Jimmy Hoffa live, and meanwhile this Congress will never do anything that is not dictated by the most retarded, right wing, reactionary forces in the American political world.

So all we have to do is give out more food, housing, clothing, medical benefits, cars, gas and phones to anyone that crosses the boarder regardless if they want to work or not? It may be a good time for working taxpayers to think again about this guy.

"Furthermore, the ELCA is a shrinking, possibly dying, denomination. Why would we as a country want to follow one of its leaders?"______ The ELCA has made a hard turn to the left which is why many congregations including mine have left it.

As expected, this opinon piece neglects to even mention the fact that coming here illegally and then having a baby in this country opens the door to all kinds of tax payer funded benefits for "the family". Illegal immigrants know this and take full advantage of it.

"So all we have to do is give out more food, housing, clothing, medical benefits, cars, gas and phones to anyone that crosses the boarder regardless if they want to work or not?"--------1. I think you missed the point of the article. He was saying that we should work with Latin American countries to get living conditions to improve enough in those countries so that less people feel the need to cross into our border, not give away more when they get here. If we spend $18 billion on border security and it's not even making a dent in illegal immigration, maybe we could put that money to better use. 2. "Whether they want to work or not?" I'm willing to bet that about 90% of the migrant farm workers, nannies, housekeepers, chamber maids, bus boys, and yard workers in this country are hispanic (legal or illegal). They work harder than you could even imagine. No American wants to do that work. I doubt you'd last a week doing any one of their jobs.

What drives illegal immigration is the Federal Government's refusal to do anything about it. Obama suing the State of Arizona for simply trying to enforce existing immigration laws is a perfect example. Giving welfare to illegals is another.

"No American wants to do that work."_____ I don't buy it. There are millions of American teenagers looking for work who could easily fill these jobs. We also need to encourge able bodied welfare recipients to fill some of these low skilled jobs. Bringing in illegals saying that nobody else can do the work is just lazy and creates far more problems than it solves.

Genuine spiritual people have a world view of peoples instead of a national view. These competing views needed discussion in the authors article to make the article a signifacant one.

greg62: Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare, so that's not such a "perfect example".
