I....for one....will be hiding in my suburban home that weekend. I will be going nowhere near either Minneapolis or St. Paul. I will probably go through cravings for some Azia sushi, but I can wait until everyone leaves.
got to make my plane reservations out of town.
I think it's great that people will actually get to know what a great place this is and realize it's more than a tundra.
I don't want Republicans coming to our fine cities and thinking they are great. They may be tempted to move here after seeing how cheap it is to live here, and how many awesome things we have here. They can come and empty their wallets here, but I don't want them getting any ideas...
When they find out that Minnesota is one of the 7 most senior-hostile states in the USA they aren't likely to retire here.
First off, by national standards only California and Oregon come to mind as being as loony an Minnesota. The secret service may fence the delegates in but its going to be hard to figure out which side will be throwing the peanuts in this zoo.
Secondly, multi-millionaires don't live here, they fleece this state and run. The name Mike Lynn ring a bell?
The only people happy about the RNC are the mayors, convention staff, and hotel / bar / restuarant staff. Otherwise this is going to be a mess for the citizens and certainly for the poor law enforcement officers from around the state who will be pushed to the limits in an attempt to keep order and safety. This is stupid and our "leaders" are foolish to be tooting their horns in getting it to come here.
We are one of the highest taxed states in the country and the gas tax will increase another 8 cents in the coming years. It costs a fortune to heat our homes in the winter and cool them off for a week or two in the summer. Traffic stinks. Shovelling tons of snow is not a positive, neither is getting frostbite. Housing is expensive compared to many parts of the country, esp in Mpls (except North Mpls - good luck there). Welfare system is out of whack.
Can't smoke in bars. Can't buy alcohol on Sundays. Can't buy / shoot off firecrackers.
Thankfully Wisconsin is just on the other side of the river, where people are allowed to still have fun.
I only live here because of my job and as soon as I retire early, good bye and so long. You guys can have it. And your hotdish.
