Call their bluff. Accept the ticket. Go to court. See the video. All will be revealed.

I'm big on discipline. But the public high school my children attend in Raleigh, NC area makes the small town MN high school I graduated from 30 years ago look like Animal House. They have a seating chart at lunch, and if they have a difference of opinion in a class on a political issue they know better than to voice it (or their grade will suffer). Can't even make noise when the opposing basketball team is shooting free throws without being threatened with expulsion. Maybe the pendulum has tipped a little too far.

"Call their bluff" <-- Exactly What a lame excuse - data privacy laws So, Borg suspends the activities director - Sorry, not enough, any admin involved should have been suspended. And, was something this drastic done without Borg's approval or knowledge? Maybe he needs to suspend himself also. Some heat needs to be applied to the Minnetrista police department for even issuing such ridiculous tickets in the first place. If they were valid to start with they shouldn't be dropped. Dropping them just shows how lame they were to start with.

It sounds to me like the district is laying the AD out to hang, making him the scapegoat. School discipline is the job of the principal, and the principal is the person who ultimately handed out the suspensions... Something still doesn't smell right here.

Schools get the police involved far too often now with their "zero tolerance" policies. I am amazed by all of the stories that I read about kids getting tickets or handcuffed and arrested at school. I was in high school in the mid-nineties and a trip to the vice principals office for a talk plus a couple hours of detention was the usual punishment for way worse behavior than anything in this story.

I just saw the video on the news and if I were one of the parents of the students in the video I would be very embarrassed by the way they were acting. I don't care if it was for a class and they had permission to do it, dancing on the tables in the cafeteria is uncalled for, permission or not. When are people going to start taking responsibility for their actions and the actions of their children. I agree getting the police involved went alittle far.

Thanks to a lack of institutional oversight the Supt. has now opened the door for every activities director to be hung out to dry. 2-3 weeks of learning time are now lost in that building and can't be recaptured. Pray for the Activities Directors!!!!

The reason they can't show the video is because it will show how wrong the administration was. This is not enough. The principal and superintendent should also be suspended. Such incredibly poor judgement must be held accountable.

The first person that should be suspended or fined is the idiot that authorized this as a "class project" and failed to a) check with the administration and b) to notify the administration that it was going to happen. AD's typically don't suspend kids from school - someone else had to ok that - their authority is typically limited to game / team suspensions and then only after an investigation. Something doesn't pass the sniff test here...my guess is that they are looking for a reason to can the AD anyway, now they have one.

The administration screwed up big time in not allowing due process. Whether the "crime" is large or small the accused has a right to explain and defend himself or herself. The fact that missing a playoff hockey game is a penalty that can't be undone makes it all the worse.
