Joe Benson regains the pep in his step in Twins outfield

  • Article by: La VELLE E. NEAL III , Star Tribune

The prospect finds himself in the midst of a battle for a starting job despite a disappointing, injury-plagued 2012 in the minors.

When he came up for his brief cup in '11, he passed the "eye" test AFAIC. In dugout shots he looked like someone who values being vocal with his teammates. The Twins need players who want to win, who would get frustrated with losing, and who would get in the face of anyone who is content just collecting a paycheck. Remember Gladden's fire, Twins fans?

Hey Morty, I want to win too. Unfortunately, I'm not a good baseball player and therefore can't help the Twins win. Same for Benson.

What if the Twins could trade Morneau really early in the season (maybe even in Spring training) and move Parmalee to first and put Hicks in CF and Benson in RF? That would make me a little more excited to see some youth get a chance.

The microfracture surgery is what worries me long term. What percentage of those that have that procedure ever make a strong come back (in any sport)?

"Two a days and popping"...what does the latter mean?

I've been known to hear reference to the "popping of the pads" during a football practice....but then again....I've also been know to be "popping a couple brews" during Twins games as well.

Unless he was suggesting that it will only take "two days to be popping the fans' balloons" on this coming season.

What exactly has Benson done to deserve a chance to be the TWINS starting CF? This is evidence of how low some fans expectations are and the TWINS low desire to try to win.
