Gardy thinks it would be wonderful to bring back Jim Thome?? Better to have a bench with PH Thome, and a guy to pinch run for Thome if he ever get on base, than to have 2 guys who can actually still play baseball?? That's the kind of manager who can lead a team to another 95-100 losses this year.

I agree with you, dbs, but wouldn't that be something to have a murderer's row of Thome, Willingham, Morneau, and.........................hmmmm, drawing a blank here.............M. Sobolewski 3b, our clean-up hitter in today's win over the Pirates.

He would be better use of a roster spot than Butera, who has no business on a major league roster. They could find a superior replacement for him stocking shelves somewhere, I am not sure why they spent 750K on him. Not a wise use of money.

Thome's return would be one of the great things that this squad needs. Thome brings his background, experience, etc. to a team that might need all the help they can get. I hope he returns, plus I think his spot on the team would sell tickets. Now come to thing about it, if Thome is resigned, I am off to buy some tickets just to go and watch him. Does anyone remember a guy named Killebrew - Thome reminds me of him.

Big Jim is iconic and wouldvsell tickets. also and would hit 15 HRs even in a reduced role. Good business move.

Better than Butera. But how about a Santana or Hardy or Lohse return. Ya, right.

"He would be better use of a roster spot than Butera, who has no business on a major league roster."-----it's a pretty sad state of affairs if Thome and Butera are the two best options that Ryan can think to choose between.

Best news I've heard in a long time....they could use him off the bench, and his value to the team with his experience, etc.....sign him, it can't do any harm, because they aren't going anywhere this season anyway...

I might be willing to buy a ticket to see Thome pinch hit. He's a future hall of famer, and a great guy (sort of a more modern version of Harmon Killebrew. Who wouldn't pay to see Thome?
