A large percentage of Americans will be eating horse meat sooner than they think... once they get priced out of Beef it will happen.

I had dog in China. Pretty good. I've had alligator, bison and who knows what else. Doctor says I'm healthy. What is the problem?

As a horse owner, horse meat will never be on my menu. However, for those that do eat it, I would be concerned about the medications the horse may have received in the past--dewormers, bute, banamine (pain meds), and tranquilizers.

someday we will see advertisements for a eatable product that says "Now with more Horse!" Geez, we eat almost all other kinds of meat. Of course, horses are our friends, so eating them is kinda like eating our dog.

Mighty Neeeiiiigborly of the Strib to print such an informative piece. But enough with the horsing around! Our European brethren have been munching down on our equine friends only forever--"cheval" is common in markets in France and I understand that there's quite a market for the stuff in Belgium as well. So what's the big deal if Americans want to chow down on Ole Paint after he's served his time pulling cartloads of kids or whateveritis horses do these days? Sounds like a good use of resources to owatonnabill. Why should dogs have all the fun?

My father was in the Army Air Force in WW2. One of the first squadorns stationed in Normandy. Later staioned in Belgium. He would tell stories of eating horse meat to my mothers horror. It was the only meat available other than the horrible c-rations. Dad said they were the best steaks he ever ate. At night the starving civilians fought and killed each other over the garbage in the squadrons dump. It was so bad they had to put a guard on the refuse. If one got hungry enough, I suspect even horse meat would be welcomed by even the most snobbish prude..
