Honestly though, there needs to be loops! What if both parents get drafted, who takes care of the kids in a situation where there is no one to help the family
Whoaa...I'm all in favor of equality but this seems a little bit too equal. I think we'd all prefer the current ability to be able to pick and choose what areas we want equality applied to.
If we are going to truely embrace "equal rights" and "embrace diversity" then we might as well get started drafting cannon fodder from all sectors.
I'll go along with it when Congress, making its war decisions, is made up of 50% women.
elind, it seems as though the question there isnt picking and choosing equality, its about the fact that what happens in a scenario like that, is there going to be something in place to prevent a situaiton?
Draft registration and universal conscription: Highly unpopular. Highly unlikely. High time to go.
We are going to need all hands when the Chinese come to collect on our debt.
You've come a long way baby! Now look what you've gotten yourself into!
Any authentic definition of equality means that one accepts the benefits of society, but also shoulders the burdens and shares the hazards. Thus, it is "fair" and "equitable" and "just" and all those other liberal buzz-words, for women to be compelled to register for the Draft, same as men. Furthermore, women should have to accept being ordered into combat duty, not just volunteer, same as the men. If women want a true equality with men, they must not be allowed to have their cake and eat it to, by having a choice to opt-in or opt-out. That said, I know a number of female ex-military and I'm confident that women will rise to the occasion.
Note: they may extend draft REGISTRATION to women. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but this looks to me like a great way for the federal government to double its repository of information on people, not double the numbers in a theoretical draft. Unless we finally end up in a conflict where they need "cannon fodder" -- er, drone fodder? -- we will never see another draft, of men or women. The present generation would revolt, and the military frankly does not want the general public, as the technology demands such a high level of training.
