No matter how much you tax or fine BP they will just pass those additional costs down to the consumer.

BP may try to pass the costs on to the consumers but it will not work. BP has to compete with other oil companies. Companies that spend a few thousand dollars extra for a proper blowout preventer (a safety critical component) will save themselves billions of dollars in adverse judgements. The cost of the judgement will be borne upon BP's shareholders, as it should be. Thank goodness for that. If the cost were not passed on to the shareholders the government would need to use much more drastic measures to enforce the law.

I am so tired of all of BP's ads on TV. They must spents MILLIONS on them trying to tell people how great they were in cleaning up the gulf.
