Minimum wage has not kept pace.

It is insane to ot have a tip credit

Raise th MN wage to match the Federal Minimum wage. MN employers have been given a break for year, can someone tell why MN hasn't followed Federal minimum wage law?

Watch unemployment tick up after they sign this bill.

I don't understand what there is to debate? The minimum wage needs to be increased. Whatever it may be increased to, it still isn't nearly enough to live on. Every little bit helps.

Why not fight for changing all wages by a certain percent? Every time the minimum wage goes up, while professional salaries are stagnant in this economy.....people are left with only one choice.....move to a new job to make more. Why does this "choice" status not apply to minimum wage earners? If you want to make more money, get a better job.

Re: Watch unemployment tick up after they sign this bill. ....Why would unemployment go up? Employers hire for one simple reason, demand. If an additional worker is needed because of demand an employer hires more workers. Adding a few cents to minimum wage will not change that

Why would anybody trust a few elected politicians to determine what people across the state in millions of jobs should earn. How is it that somebody in St. Paul knows better than the farmer near Crookston or the plumber in Duluth how much to pay their least-skilled workers? These politicians can't balance their own budgets - why would we allow them to mandate changes to the budgets of businesses across the state?

Most people in these entry-level jobs don't have the skills to make their labor worth what the government wants to impose on employers. That means most of those people will experience either a job loss or a reduction in hours worked. What most need is experience. If they are given that opportunity at a lower wage (a non-livable wage), if they are competent and learn and increase their skills most all employers will increase their pay as well.

All those calling for an increase in the minimum wage don't realize that it affects the low-skilled employee the most. Those are the people that will lose their jobs when employers are have to start adjusting salaries - of course, most large employers follow the federal minimum wage now anyway. Let's cut the minimum wage or do away with it entirely. Allow employers to bring back some of the manucturing jobs and allow low-skilled workers to start learning a skill/trade and gain higher wages that way.
