With the divorce rate skyrocketing and the breakdown of the family, there may be some that haven't thought about their faith. If you are a skeptic of organized religion, I would tell you its never to late to let Jesus into your heart. You will run into a fair amount of disbelievers on this forum and in other places. Realize that there will be deception and temptation along your path. Get to know the lives and stories of some of the Catholic Saints as their stories and faith will astound you. Google Teresa Neumann for example. Read about her miraculous life and struggles and you'll know that life on earth is most definately being orchestrated not by the laws of science, but by the laws from on high.

I'm about to say something that will be very unpopular, but having grown up in a Catholic country in the third world, I am of the opinion that a pope from the third world will be a step away from, not towards, modernity. Catholicism where I grew was just one step away from animism, with the faithful treating statues of saints, Jesus and Mary as if the statues themselves were divine, not mere symbols. Does the clergy try to change this point of view? No, in fact they tacitly encourage it. After all kissing the foot of Jesus' statue on Good Friday is a big money maker for the local parish.
