It's unfortunate the investigation won't go forward, I think that's the incentive for him to resign, there's more to this that could/would be discovered. We should know the details. Oh well... Also, I'm concerned about this binary "pick one, and resign from the other" approach, which is too late. That was his choice at the time, but not now. It doesn't give adequate weight to Egan's impaired ethical judgment. He's tainted, and because of his choice to lobby for frac sand mining interests, he's not fit for Mayor of Red Wing. He's broken that boundary and that's it, done, there's no turning back and pretending it didn't happen. Goodbye, Egan. Now, about that date of resignation -- move it up -- resign now. No April Fool's joke on Red Wing!

Good riddance. But Mayor Egan should resign immediately, not wait until April Fools Day.

If only it were that easy to resolve all the other potential and probable problems with sand mining, fracking, etc.

"Dennis Egan, who earns a living as a professional lobbyist and political consultant, had staunchly defended his right to continue as mayor while strategizing, lobbying and speaking for an industry that has caused an uproar throughout southeastern Minnesota with its fast-moving expansion efforts." It doesn't get any dirtier than this folks. A classic example of blind arrogance from a politician over your interests.

"Dennis Egan, who earns a living as a professional lobbyist"----How is that alone not a conflict of interest. He is a lobbyists for mining companies. How could this not be a conflict of interest with all the mining going on down there? Ridiculous. Is he quitting because he fears the investigation will show criminal activity? Hmmm

Would the reaction be the same if the mayor had taken a job with an anti-development environmental group?

formergop.... not just Washington either..I can name five former politicians from Minnesota that lobby both here and in D.C...... and why can't we just get real, and call lobbying what it is..... bribery.... We truly have become a corrupt nation and it is not going to change until we get a third political party in this country.

I now expect every person on the city council with outside employment to follow his lead and do the same. That's right. The only way to clean up politics is to get rid of all such outside influence, so, lets make politics pure again and make it an either-or proposition. Either you work or you govern.
