Obama administration asks Supreme Court to void provision of Defense of Marriage Act

It's about time. If one leaves their religious (or just "it's yucky") beliefs at the door and thinks about the denial of equal rights strictly from a legal/Constitutional standpoint, the law is indefensible. Either the Government has to be out of the marriage business (no tax benefits, social security survivors benefits, employee spouse benefits, military spouse benefits), or it has to treat all couples equally. Everyone should be free to make their own decisions and be equal under the law unless there is a good secular reason to deny that freedom or equality, and there just isn't one.
