Just like the administration, these governors need to learn to live within their means. Instead of fighting lower federal funding they ought to be fighting for fewer federal laws and mandates applied to the states. Take this as an opportunity for more state control. Next time you meet with Obama tell him to eliminate mandates along with the cuts in funding. Certainly our public schools would be freed from some of their requirements and be able to reduce their costs.
Out of a $3.558 trillion budget, $85 billion can't be cut? Govt spending is up 17% since Obama took office. Obama is using this "crisis" - one that he wanted - to further his left-leaning agenda and get taxes raised on higher earners. He cries wolf on anything in order to realize an agenda and not to better the country. In 2008 it was all about hope and change for all, but this presidency is clearly more about turning the country far, far to the left. Hard to believe we could elect a president worse than W. Bush.
Blame Obama if that is what you have to do, but the fact is, there is agreement that cuts need to be made. So what's the problem? Simple, they cannot agree on what areas to cut. For me, let the sequester happen and I am better off. Sorry if that is not true for you, but this is the new America and I have seen enough of the wealthy looking out for themselves, so I thought I would try it this go around. And I will give you a concrete example. The military would be cut and their choice is to cut civilian personnel instead of ending a program to build more tanks, while 3000 are mothballed in the desert. We refuse to close 270 cold war military bases around the world. It's called priorities, and the middle class of America is not as important as a member of congress's pork to his constituents. And while we are at it, why are we even discussing this while we help people all around the world, but are throwing our elderly under the bus? Bring it on.....
---said Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, a Democrat. "We've actually had the fastest rate of jobs recovery of any state in our region. And this really threatens to hurt a lot of families in our state and kind of flat line our job growth for the next several months."--- I cant imagine how Maryland would have the highest growth of any state in the region with the huge growth in Government spending and the majority of the Employees in the federal Govt living in Maryland.
There is plenty of blame to go around on all sides. Unfortunately, regular Americans will be harmed-not the politicians who will continue to receive their salaries, health insurance, pensions, travel allowances, staffs...
We are spending 3 to 5% more this year than last year on a Federal level. We will also over spend by about a trillion dollars AGAIN this year. The sequester only slows the rate of growth very slightly. It was the Obama white house that came up with the sequester idea and made the cuts so skewed towards the defense budget. Now Obama is traveling again this week to the Navy shipyard to try to twist the story and use the bully pulpet to distort and distract. At this point, I just laugh when I see one of Obamas made for TV moments ~ everyone knows that its all smoke and mirrors, disception, fear, etc. That's his schtick, his style - totally ineffective as a leader. We do deserve better. I think most people are starting to see through this and realize that we have a President that doesn't know how to lead, because he's never had to meet a payroll or run a business before.
Quote: "I cant imagine how Maryland would have the highest growth of any state in the region...." They did it mostly off the backs of us, the taxpayers. The number of federal employees grew by 123,000, or 6.2%, under President Obama, according to the White House's Office of Management and Budget. Maryland is a hub for Fed workers. At the same time, the private sector has lost 1.1 million jobs. This Obama economy is just not helping people. Good post Flash - we need to cut back on the benefits that all politicians receive; they should be on the same healthcare system as normal Americans. They should be on social security and 401K's, not some trumped up retirement system just for them. Also, the President should be paying back the taxpayer for these high dollar dream vacations taken at a time when people are struggling.
Republican obstructionists in the House, holding a middle-class economic recovery hostage, once again, to the whims of their rich plutocrat puppetmasters, who would really rather not be inconvenienced with the sort of taxes they had to pay under Clinton. pitiful lot.
Hey liberals, remember when you were yelling about Bush using FEAR for his agenda? You said he was trying to SCARE the American people about terrorists to go to war. What the heck do you think Obama and the Democrats are doing? eg. "We are going to lose air traffic controllers, delaying thousands of flights".
But, but, but....you mean adding over six trillion dollars to our deficit in less than four years, having an estimted 1.4 trillion dollare deficit estimate for year five is bad? Well, who knew?
