teen shows are just soap operas, kids like to watch the drama for the same reasons as adults. I'm sure they do learn things from those shows, since teens have so little actual dating experience. We hope to keep our kids "out of trouble" by involving them in organized activities. But we will also encourage them to have a social life. And try to talk to them about all things dating, including contraception. Knowledge is power.

First of all, if you accept anything written on the editorial pages of the chicago tribune as factually accurate, you are a bigger knucklehead than I thought, and second, this is just another liberal attempt to pretend that their perverted social agenda hasn't really turned American society into a moral cesspool. What is the teen birth rate now compared to 1960?? ..... Nuff said!

stpauloldies: LOL! You probably have a lot in common with the guy who said this “I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint.” Hesiod circa 650 BC.

Liberals give kids loaded guns with hair triggers and tell them to keep the safety on in order to practice "safe gun play." That is called "birth control."

Not too long ago, the StarTribune had an article that stated: In Minneapolis, MN 50% of all babies born to Women ages 20 to 30 are now born "Out-Of-Wedlock". That is a Five-Fold increase from when I was a kid. This article seems to contradict that 50% figure. I'm not sure which article to believe now.

So teens are more responsible when it comes to sex? Owatonnabill attributes that to racial wisdom--the instinct that takes over when the morons who constitute the parents and grandparents of these kids have made themselves look foolish enough so that the teens' instinct for survival kicks in and they (consciously or otherwise) turn away from the vacuous promiscuity promoted and practiced by their parents' generations. You see a lot of these fresh young faces at Tea Party rallies--teens who define "freedom" by the responsibility it takes to obtain it, not by how much they can get away with.

Wow, 6 comments and already 2 of them are decrying liberals and one tells us that the only responsible teens are at Tea Party rallies. My God people, give it a rest.

beebee82Feb. 22, 13 8:46 AM

gwbuddy, last I checked, 20-30 year-olds are no longer teenagers. This piece is about teenagers. There's no contradiction.

Not only is this all liberals' fault (except the article was good news so maybe it is all to our credit?) but we gave them guns to play with. Either that or we irresponsibly gave our children the capacity to reproduce and then told them how not to have babies until they were ready. Hard to tell.

I hate to break it to you, but the kids have the loaded guns already. What "liberals" (as if no conservatives support sex ed) advocate is teaching them gun safety. People like you want to pretend they aren't armed in the first place.
