"and allows some retired peace officers to carry guns without a permit." - How offensive, other citizens are illegally required to pay a poll tax and jump through hoops to exercize the CIVIL RIGHT without fear of destruction by police but the legislature is considering compounding the rebellion by illegally granting some citizens a waver of this poll tax? I though my disgust for these rebels could reach no greater heights, I see I was wrong. You do not have the authority to do any of this legislators, you're really only endangering society by your pretense of monarchy.
...and the real problem, gangsters fouling our streets, is mot mentioned again. It's time for these legislators to finally do the hard thing and do what will make the real difference: BUST THE GANGS!
There's a lot of talk about gangs as the problem. How many of these mass shootings were carried out by gangs?
Westchester police chief is giving guns away to raise money for police academy. As long as law enforcement is working against itself why are they screaming bloody murder?
Once an officer is retired why should they enjoy fewer restrictions than the rest of the public? This is just government elitism run amok. Would the requirement to sell guns through dealers (supposedly to eliminate gun trafficking) cover just actual sales or would it include all transfers including those among family members? If it includes all transfers that would mean that someone couldn't give an already owned gun as a gift to their child, spouse, or parent without doing it through a dealership.
Really, aren't we done wasting time on this?
Eleanore, government is always exempt from it's own laws, you know that! They can trade legally on inside information and make 100's of millions over their "careers". Many avoid travel security policies, the potential AR ban would not apply to them either, on and on and on. Are we talking about servants of the People or Plutocrats?
"Universal" background checks are just a prelude to gun registration and then confiscation. Already in many areas of the USA registration and confiscation of certain types of firearms and their accessories are on the table. Don't kid yourself, it can't happen here? It is happening here. The agenda of those who would disarm America is one step at a time.
And we pay these people to bother us like this? We'd be better off without a legislature at all. There - budget deficit reduced!
Isn’t there a committee for Justice over at the senate? Shouldn’t these individuals be using their time sitting on a committee like that trying to reduce the injustice in society rather than increase it with ethically bankrupt proposals like this? Yes they should. If you wanted another example of how “our” government is not really doing our work, the work we NEED for them to be doing, here’s another example.
