By all logic, the kitchen at the Birchwood Cafe should be a disaster zone.

Great place-truly excellent food. I think they've outgrown their space though. It's not really a fun or relaxing lunch experience in that room with how many tables they've crammed in there, and could they decide if there's table service or not? Last time I went we arrived during a crowded lunch time and saw a table that had just opened up. I was used to the place asking customers to bus their own dishes so I brought a couple of dishes that were left on our table up to the front counter and the guy acted like I was trying to hand him radioactive waste. They really need to figure out what kind of restaurant they want to be.

I love the Birchwood's food and focus on sustainable/local sources! They support local farming through volunteer "crop mobs" and also have their own bicycle racing team. The only nagatives: It's usually crowded, often noisy and in the summer I feel guilty getting there by car.

Great food, but the place is always crowded and it is hard to sit and enjoy your meal. The last time I was there, the only available table was out on the sidewalk on a cold and windy day. The sun was going down, and waves of sleet were moving through the neighborhood. If I go again, I'm just going to try and get takeout.
