Too bad he doesn't live in the US. Not only could he buy an unlimited amount of guns, the NRA would have pinned a medal on him for "standing his ground" against his girlfriend.

attonce, i think this is misinterpreted - despite all the restrictive gun control laws in Africa, he killed anyway. who knows if we had criminal intent but i presume more to the story will be told eventually. any responsible, trained gun owner would NEVER consider firing through a locked bathroom door!

If only Ms. Steencamp had had a gun while in the bathroom. This never would have happened, right?. And the writer calls South Africa's gun laws strict? Why? Because you need a license? And a character reference? Hardly strict. Finally, why, oh why, would a burglar go to the bathroom and shut the door.

sorry, I can't resist the opportunity for a snide remark. I had doubts about this story, (hearing tidbits on radio and TV) until I read in this story that he fired through the bathroom door. It was game over after that. I don't know what SA's gun laws are. I realize guns will never be banned in this country, but why don't US gun owners realize that also? Why does the NRA have such insane resistance to any gun laws whatsoever? I can only conclude that the hard line maintains their power, their contributions and membership and their power.
