Weapons hearings in St. Paul will focus on background checks, not “highly divisive” bans on assault weapons and magazines.

Gun control advocates have been outnumbered at the capitol by a ratio of at least 5 to 1 for weeks now. For a legislator like Latz, that's sending a very strong message: the gun control advocates don't care nearly as much as the 2nd amendment supporters. If you care about the issue, start showing up and making your voices heard. Democracy is a responsive sport, and so far the 2nd amendment folks are winning fair and square in a landslide.

When you balance the interests of assault weapon "hobbyists" and "enthusiasts" with victims of massacres, it is an easy call to make for most rational people. Latz has lost my vote.

Tony Cornish - what an astoundingly weak argument for being opposed to background checks. Latz - because it's divisive you're not willing to confront the issue? That's a lame excuse.

The practice of dropping felony convictions to lesser ones, after the person's sentence is completed, needs to stop. My ex wife was convicted of a felony count of child endangerment. After a five year probation, the conviction was dropped to a misdemeanor. She was able this last Christmas, to go out a buy a hunting rifle for my son. That never should be able to happen. Felonies need to be for life.

Wonderful, one more rep that is actually using their brain.

Latz apparently understands that there isn't any "gun violence" problem here that enforcing existing laws won't fix. Even background checks have already been law in Minnesota for decades.

Yes, and ANY politician who so much as thinks of voting for any useless bans or restrctions will be 'off the table' too, next election.

I strongly applaud Rep. Hausman for having the guts to propose strong gun control legislation. Latz fails the leadership test.

Guns aren't the problem (like alcohol), it's the people that misuse them that's the problem. Now get to work enforcing current laws and construct ways to prevent the abusers.
