How predictable. Sanford gets caught cheating on his wife and mentions religion and/or God in his comeback speech. Is it just me, or do a disproportionate number of social conservatives try to force their morality on us while they are off doing the opposite?

Perhaps Mr Sanford should take his new wife to be and move to a small town that doesn't have an airport that could whisk him to a foreign rendezvous to escape this new marriage to be! Politically maybe he could run for Mayor in a Mayberry like town and spend his days going to the barbershop to see Lloyd, Floyd or Billy Bob the barber to catch up on the important issues of the day. And remember Mark, Thelma Lou and Helen are already taken!

Are you going to hiking the Appalachian trail with anyone else, Mr. Sanford?

I wonder if the God who said 'thou shall not commit adultery' is the same as Sanford's God of second chances? If his world, I'm sure they're one and the same. Perhaps he's spoken to Sanford and given him the OK?

Would that be the same God that Sanford had voted to impeach President Clinton with over the Monica Lewinsky scandal?

To be fair, at least he didn't say, "I'm not a witch".

I'll let him and the people who vote for him reconcile their miserable existence with their god.

Almost all of the comments tend to focus on his having an affair. Sanford would LIKE to make the discussion of his "mistakes" focus on just having an affair. He ran off from his position as Governor without letting his staff know where he was! And he misused government funds to do it! These are far more damaging than just cheating on his wife. They show that he can't be trusted to perform his position of public responsibility properly.
