"opposing measures to combat climate change" We could only "combat" it if it was caused by us, which it isn't. Fairbourne's comments show that the adults are starting to pierce the veil of the global warming religous followers. "Pay no attention to the great and powerful Wizard of Gore behind the curtain". Man-caused global warming is finally starting to be seen as the crock it always was.

"Broadcast meteorologists tend to avoid deep discussions on long term climate changes as that is really not our field of expertise". Exactly. For weather forecasters/meteorologists to publicize (through their media outlets) what amounts to their personal stance on the issue - either way, is a poor use in judgement, if they don't disclose their qualifications to be making such commentary. Despite meterology and climatology being disparate areas of expertise, most of the public thinks that they're one in the same and this shapes their own thinking on the matter. If you're going to defend or deny the whole issue, at least take the time to make yourself informed instead of pointing to others who are no more qualified to make an objective asssement on the topic. For the record, there have been some local meteorologists that have approached the topic properly and qualified unfounded information as their opinion, or at least explained their stance.

TV weatherpeople are focused on hours and days. Climatologists focus on years, decades, millennia. So personally, I consider the study of global warming as a hobby of mine, not my main specialty. With that said, from what I have studied, I would have to go with the AMS, that there is "adequate evidence" of man-made global warming.

Go to http://www.giss.nasa.gov/research/news/20080514/ Let's start doing our own research on this people and start reading reports from REAL scientists instead of listening to off-hand comments from asinine weathermen who are out of their element.

NASA needs to get there funding some how. The easiest way to get that funding is to claim a crisis. If we look into the federal budget we have all kinds of groups looking for funding by claiming a crisis! By the way the UN says the planet has been cooling since 1998. And it was at its warmest in 1932.

I wonder why the dinosaurs became extinct when the only thing on this planet was nature itself, no man or man made anything, could it be that this planet is constantly going natural evolutionary that contribute to climate change and no man as many would want us to believe. Humans have occupied this planet for such a short period of time which would be the equivalent to a grain a sand on an ocean beach in terms of time, I do agree humans do contribute to pollution to some degree, although, to say we are going to kill this planet is utter nonsense. Nature will do it all by itself.

Fahqtrib writes "We could only "combat" [global warming] if it was caused by us, which it isn't." By this reasoning, we would be unable to combat global terrorism, because we didn't cause that either, did we, Fahqtrib?

... and those are being taken into account. The forcing from solar changes, earth orbit, ocean currents, etc. are all forcings that change climate... and they are all relatively small in regard to man-made Anthropogenic forcing.

So, since meteorologists aren't climate scientists, we can't necessarily belive what they say on global warming, but we should believe what Algore, Will Steger, Cheryl Crow, and other's say?
