Even chiefs of police are raffling guns as a way to raise badly needed money.

So what? There is no "gun violence" problem that enforcement of existing laws won't fix. Trying to marginalize gun owners and defenders of the Bill of Rights is a bad strategy that will fail. Gun owners are the mother of all single-issue voters and will remember who the enemy is on election day.

I used to think most journalists were just lazy, but now I truly believe they are liars. Why else would one keep repeating a falsehood? The AR15 in the raffle is NOT similar to one used in the Sandy Hook school shooting simply because the killer used two handguns and not any type of rifle. Yet, the public is still propagandized on a daily basis by the writer of this article. If she had even bothered to check with the Newtown police department, she could have found what weapons were or were not used in this tragic shooting but hey, never let the facts get in the way of pushing an agenda.

My towns fire dept tried many different ways to raise money until they came out with the gun calendar. They sold a thousand $20 tickets in 2 weeks. All the tickets are gone already for this year as many people like myself have had the same number for many years. Everyone will spend $20 to take a chance on hitting one or more guns. Now if one of you anti-gun types wants to step up and give the fire dept $20K, I'm sure they will give up the raffle.

As usual, much hysteria over NOTHING. Going by federal and local laws, most all of these raffles make the prize winner go through the EXACT SAME paperwork and background checks they would have to if they actually *purchased* the firearm. To make it sound as if guns are being blithely handed-over in the same manner as a meat-raffle or something, is ludicrous!

Same old pro liberal dribble. Just like trying to scare the old ladies that an asteroid is headed for earth.

I believe that the falshood is that an AR-15 was not used in the Sandy Hook shooting.

Every single day, the Strib finds a way to publish another fluff piece like this in a comical attempt to scare people about guns. The editors of this paper are absolutely terrified of guns, and will stop at nothing to sway public opinion their way. Unfortunately for them, there are a lot fewer sheep outside the confines of the asylums named Minneapolis and St. Paul than they thought. Bill G.

Yes, things are following their logical progression. Start out from a position that handguns are bad. Then extend the condemnation to "assault weapons", which are merely cosmetically modified weapons not mechanically different than a deer rifle or duck hunting shotgun. Now encouraging interested parties in legally obtaining a gun as a raffle winner is "criminally negligent". Bottom line is that these activists (and there are many of them) hate guns in general and ideally would like all of society to be disarmed. Schools teach kids that all guns are bad. Communities have "gun buy backs" to "get guns off the street"- as if the old broken down shotguns and pellet rifles thus obtained were somehow "one the street" and creating mayhem. I heard Conan Obrien the other night saying that as a parent with kids, he just shuddered at the thought of having a gun in the house- as if it were a living thing that could unlock its own cabinet, load itself, and then slaughter his family. This is unvarnished idiocy. The anti-gunners and anti-hunters have done a wonderful job of brainwashing this generation.
