"It was embarrassing," Tubby Smith said after his team's 16-point lead turned into a 21-point defeat in stunningly quick fashion.

I and a few of my coaching buddies attended Tubbys hoops clinic a couple years go, where we were allowed to watch a Gophs practice....we came away not impressed, it was elementary 5-6th grade stuff all day, kept waiting for them to get to the good stuff and step things up and they never did. I seriously was looking around to see if we were on Candid Camera or Punk'd, but never did find any cameras. Walked out shaking our heads wondering what this guy was all about and how he got to that level of coaching.

If they finish below .500 Big Ten, then Tubby has to go, unless they make some kind of miracle run in the Tournament. And I'm not talking NIT.

Shaka Smart runs a very strange, severely uptempo game, like a hurry up offense and steals-oriented defense. Supposed he recruited to match that system. That may not work in the physical Big Ten.

Its hard to be upset at Maverick and the rest of Tubbys sharpshooters that come in off the bench. This 2nd group is probably about as bad as I have seen in my 35 years of following Gophers basketball. There is nothing this bunch can bring except turnovers and airballs. Tubby never even gave Nate Wolters a phone call instead he hopped on a plane and went to California to recruit this master ball handler named Maverick. Oto came as a 3 point shooting specialist lol, you have to at least be able to get the ball towards the rim for it to go in. Oto will probably take the honors for the most airballs in a season. Keep up the good work Tubby, you're a genius.

Ok one more post: The players: Mbakwe, could play for any team in the country as a rebounding specialist. Let's remember though he was offered by only the GOphers and Marquette out of high school. Not a highly coveted player. Rodney Willims: One college offer to a major college: and he is here. Seems like a great kid. Great leaper, fun to watch catching alley oops and on the fast break. Not a terribly polished basketball player though. Julian Welch: Not a big ten player, Coleman - again, love Coleman, seems like a great kid and pretty solid, but he is a mid-major type of player..UW-Milwaukee, Ball St...not a BIg Ten player. Andre Hollins:He is probably their best player but let's remember, he is from memphis and was not offered scholarships by Memphis or Tennessee. Minnesota was his consolation prize.

Last point. Do not write "get Shaka Smart" on this site. Shaka Smart was offered 5 years, 12.5 million at Illinois (a much much much much better job than Minnesota) and turned it down for less money to stay at VCU. We have the same chance of getting Shaka Smart as we do of getting Tarkanian or Bobby Knight. Get real people.

It's funny, the first year he was here, I knew he was a big name and also heard everyone preach about how hard his teams play defense. So I get luck and get tickets courtside to the game at Williams Arena where they hosted Virginia. Virginia scored 60 points in the second half of that game. 60 pts in the second half!!!!! I came on here and laughed and wrote "Fire Tubby." I gor 1 "like" and about 47 "dislikes" on that comment. Two years later when they got bombed at home by Illinoin en routhe to a 9th place Big Ten finish and a few key transfers later, I wrote "Fire Tubby" on this site. I got about 25 "likes" and around 25 "dislikes." If I wrote "fire Tubby" today, as many of you have done, how many likes and dislikes would that get? Tubby sucks. No offense, no defense, and his recruiting? TYhe best basketball class in the history of the state is graduating in 2014: Jones, Vaughn, Travis. A good recruiter would get one or two of those guys. He will get none of them.

Big Ten finishes under tubby: 6th, 7th, 7th, 9th, 9th, and what this year??? 6th? 7th? Illinois is rolling now and the Gophs are tied with Iowa. And they will be 6-9 in Big Ten play after this coming weekend. Ouch.

In spite of last weeks OT win, please keep Tubby. You probably can't afford to fire him anyway.

Yes I agree Tubby needs to go but, lets realize that we really don't have a lot of talent on our team either-360 dunks when you could miss and it is not necessary, throw kisses to the crowd, dance after an ugly win.How about a little humility and a realization that there's a lot of work to do?
