"I just got sick of falling and falling,” Kurtz said. --- If you do not go that often a season, take up skiing. It is a lot easier to learn to ski and you will spend less time falling.

As a skier im prejudiced, but it appears to be a sport made for much longer hills than the midwest has, boarders are constantly strapping & un-strapping at the top & bottom of the hill, and all the falling, i dont get the appeal. as for competing, most snow board competing is "judges" how lame. I think these young women are wise and see the limitations and switch to skis.

I taught skiing in Colorado for two years and had more than a few young ladies give up on boarding for skiing. Same thing, two days of falling with a board or one hour ski lesson and off to the mountain on their own no problem. What are they to choose. Bottom line, skiing is easier to pick.

Yes, the comments about learning are correct. I used to teach ski lessons, and I noticed that skiing and boarding have essentially opposite learning curves. Boarding is very difficult at first, but after 5-6 times, its pretty quick to advance through intermediate to advanced. Skiing is the opposite. After a one hour lesson you can handle the bunny hill. To get to the expert level, though, takes much longer than on a board.

My daughter was a former nationals level snowboarder-quit cold after many -many years. I wish he interviewer would have included more of that perspective -it's pretty interesting. By the way hi Sara and Missy-you are both great!
