From the article: We can only hope that, as in 1976 when Sylvester Stallone’s soulful low-budget underdog “Rocky” beat three legitimate classics (“Taxi Driver,” “Network” and “All the President’s Men”) .... That nub of a statement summarizes why the Oscars don't really measure much of anything. In fact, as Best Pictures go, Academy voters seem to get it wrong far more often than they get it right. There are some astonishing clunkers on the Best Picture winner list, including "Crash," "Gladiator," "Braveheart," "Dances with Wolves," "Ghandi" - and those are all relatively recent wins. Going further back, the list of cringe-inducing Best Pictures includes "The Greatest Show on Earth," "Oliver," "Around the World in 80 Days".... I could go on, but I'm afraid I'd put people off movies for good. Don't know why, but seems when they award a movie a Best Picture Oscar, the film starts going stale almost immediately. It has the effect of distorting the viewer's expectations, putting an undue burden on the title.

There were so many good movies that were nominated and some (Moonrise Kingdom, Skyfall) that were not. In the greater scheme of things, the Oscars have become irrelevant because the other award shows are so much more fun. I liked Argo. It was meticulous, terrific sound editing and music and had a tricky script and tense action. But I won't be crushed if it doesn't win, because any film nominated deserves to win Best Picture.

ZERO DARK 30 should win Best Picture for sure except Hollywood is too liberal to vote in a movie celebrating the CIA's hard work in tracking down Bin Ladin and the tactics that led to his demise. Hollyowood, please put your politics aside and objectively vote yes for the most entertaining and riveting movie this year...please! Argo is a nice solid 3 star movie and nothing more. I could understand Lincoln potentially beating out Zero Dark 30 but NOT Argo.
