Yet another negative story on Rio, making crime the thread binding all their adventures. Sure, most of the stories the writer heard beforehand included crime on tourists - she was querying the tourism community. Much indeed must be done to be ready for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. Yet where is the mention of live music at the beachside kiosks, the extensive (and safe) bus network, abundance of art, and green space of a city at the edge of a rainforest? Few cities can claim to be a vibrant metropole with thriving economy, gastronomy galore, idyllic beaches and jungle hikes. Rio is such.
