It takes a lot of courage to break with tradition. Perhaps they could continue along those lines and elect a Nun as Pope. (Or are they still stuck in the 15th century?)

If he were truly a man of God, he would turn over his files and unearth all he knew about the global pedophilia problem and chose to protect the Church, not the children.

Fact..this guy was John Paul's right hand man regarding the abuse scandal. he was making ALL the final decisions and giving directions. He had this job for TWENTY FIVE years. Both of these guys are guilty of crimes against children. Good time to resign. HBO just ran a documentary Mea Maxima Culpa Silence In The House of God. You can also see this on You Tube. Abuse goes back to at least 400AD and it's just a way of life with the Vatican. Watch it and learn.

He's just getting out of the way of the legal tsunami that is about to hit the church.

I would not be surprised that a scandal is about to break.

Boy, is it ever evident that this newspaper and its collective socialist readership really hate the Catholic Church. Guess who is in the top tier of charitable organizations around the world? Catholic Relief Services. They provide help to 100 million poor and vulnerable people around the world in about 100 different countries. Why is that never mentioned by any of you?

"the top tier of charitable organizations around the world" ...............It would be good to see the financials of the church, and see percentage wise how much they dole out on the charitable side. If you consider their gold reserves, real estate holdings, maintenance, all the salaries and benefits the hierarchy receives, I would bet that the church doesn't even come close to other non profit charities in giving by percentage to money received.

Its curious to me how so many will, no matter the news story, go out of their way to criticize Catholicism never mind they probably aren't Catholic and probably don't proscribe to any faith. And never mind the good the church does even on a local level. Yet let this bloated, incompetent, regulatory, freedom crushing government you've voted for come under any criticism and many of you are right there making excuses and twisting the facts. So its still a sort of free country. You have your "Religion" (the nanny state), I have mine. Mine was here before yours and will be here after yours implodes.
