This is proof positive that the Olympics succeed in spite of those who run it. Cutting an original Olympic sport is asinine. However, I don't believe Modern Pentathlon should be cut either, as it is a variation of the original pentathlon.

To cut a sport that has it's roots as an original olympic event and is still a legitimate sport with real athletes is ridiculous. What are they going to add, something with roller skates probably...

This is all about money and politics. Nobody cares that some of these smaller and poorer countries can only afford wrestling. The "olympic ideal" is a dollar sign.

What they have done is ridiculous. The Olympic Games should be going the OTHER DIRECTION and eliminating corny faux-sports in order to get back to what the ancient games were really about. All I saw this past time around were athletes who were prettier/flashier than they were athletic. Perfect teeth whiter than white, immediately ready with predetermined statements for that after race interview, etc. The Olympic Games don't exist anymore. The Games are now a hybrid that is closer to the X-Games. I'm not even a big fan of wrestling (no offense) but I know for certain that the sport/competition was extremely important and respected way back then and should still be now.

Just another reason not to watch the summer Olympics. Lets keep swirling streamer dancing in just not a true sport like Greco-Roman wrestling. These people at the IOC are fools so are the people that do it for that matter for an Olympic medal and think it actually counts as a sport medal.

Good move (no pun intended). With so many communicable diseases going around such as MRSA and herpes now is the time to end wresting in schools as well.

This is a ridiculous decision. They will keep weight lifting which is rife with steroids and drugs and get rid of one of the original Greek Olympics sports. Also, the article sidebar should have mentioned Johnny Ross, a champion '50s wrestler for the Gophers who was blind.
