This is very toubling, as a wrestler I am very sad about this.
Very sad for an organization and an institution that claims it's about sport and competition to sell out to commercialism and TV ratings. I had higher expectations of the IOC
Didn't Badminton have some controversy last Olympics? Throwing matches for favorable matchups in future rounds? Dump that sport. Synchronized swimming and diving too. Do they still have Rythmic Gymnastics? That can go too if so.
Very well written, Jill. The IOC is a corrupt and sickening organization. Their obsession with money is a direct result of the amount that finds it's way into the pockets of the people at the top of that organization. And their pathetically hypocritical claim to be a non-political entity would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad and disgusting. How much more two-faced can they be to ban tiny little South Africa over apertheid, while allowing N. Korea, Iran, China, Russia, and countless others with far worse human rights abuses to play while the IOC looks the other way. They disgust me ..... period!
Speaking of badminton and table tennis; ... they don't seem to care what the U.S. thinks when they ban the hugely popular sport of women's softball, and mem's baseball. But they seem scared to death to stand up to china when it comes to 2 sports that nobody else in the world even plays. Baseball is played by over half the world, but hey, the U.S. is a pushover, so they don't mind cutting our sports.
