The Great Lakes states like the Rocky Mountain states have shown us Clearly that they can NOT be trusted with wildlife/wolf management as their fish & game departments are Owned & Controlled by hunting lobby groups. In less than three years of being de-listed in Wyoming wolves went from Protected to vermin status at the behest of the Safari Club & other trophy hunting groups. Here in Mn we are seeing the Same progression from being protected to now being classified as nothing special! We've seen our moose population crash while the DNR catering to hunting interests still took near 100 Bull moose this past fall for just their antlers. If it was not for the intensive media coverage they would have gone through with yet another mis-guided moose hunt. As for the wolves, without Federal protection they WILL be Wiped out again in Minnesota. We have No Confidence in the Mn DNR,if the moose & other wildlife could talk they would say the same.
Too bad the DNR doesn't have the SAME passion to rid our lakes of zebra mussels that they have with our wolves our lakes would be clear of this invasive pest!
MN Legislature needs to halt the hunt! Hooray to all who are working to stop this abomination. Get busy and get this thing stopped! Bad for the economy, the ecosystem and bad for Minnesotans.
We have all seen how clearly the DNR, and State Fish and Wildlife cannot manage any animal let alone an apex predator. The wolf season showed us this. No matter what people are saying it's been made clear viz youtube and other social networks that there is pure hatred and vile torture being perpetrated against these animals. Laws are being broken and people are either getting off with a slap on the wrist or let go with no consequences. All fault laying in the hands of the "state management".
Notice how all the states want to be in charge of their wolves so they can hold trophy hunts, allow hounding, allow trappers to make them suffer until they are mercifully shot in the head and of course do favors for their buddies the hunters, trappers and ranchers. Why should the obviously biased DNR get to manage the wolves when they are only out to please their bloodthirsty stakeholders? Take for example the fact that the MN wolf hunt began on the deer opener in order to inflict maximum damage to the wolves. This was lobbied for by the MN Deer Hunters Assn and obviously they got what they wanted! The wolves were being lured with electronic calls and baited. That is how these cheaters got wolves. There was no Fair Chase whatsoever. Cattle deaths totalled 198 head last year and the ranchers were compensated for each one and 300 wolves were killed. Why in god's name did another 412 wolves have to die? The wolf hunt was not governed by science or logic it was pure politics and unseen agendas for our public lands (cattle in the north woods). This is not in the best interests of the wolves or the state of Minnesota. Our wild heritage is being stolen away from us by greedy men. The solution begins with relisting the wolves, holding our politicians accountable for their actions and making sure the DNR isn't massacring our wildlife and destroying our public lands clandestinely.
