"A top Democrat says the toll that gun violence is taking on families makes it clear that Congress needs to pass more firearms restrictions." - A top Democrat clearly doesn't understand how our rule of law works. Restrictions aren't compliant with the second amendment period. If he wants to rebel against the nation that's his/her choice, being a top Democrat, but the nation won't be tolerating it and will be loking for criminal charges against rebels should the vote for or pass any legislation running counter to the constitution. America is watching alright.

How about......"The plague of gun violence makes it plain that current (reams of) firearms restrictions are insufficiently enforced"??

Just treat 2nd Amendment rights the way SD and other states treat abortion. Waiting period, limited outlets, all sorts of requirements to own a store that sells firearms, oh, can counseling provided by anti-gun advocates, paid for by the state. See, your rights are intact!

There are too many families who now face an empty seat at the dinner table" because of gun violence, said Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., chairman of a Senate Judiciary subcommittee. ********* Too many families who face an empty seat at the dinner table is because of a mentally ill person that got a hold of a firearm.

I think Senator Durbin is to blame for there being too many empty seats at the family dinner table.

And how is your strict gun control working in Chicago and the rest of Illinois, Sen. Durbin? Perhaps you could also explain why the drug gangs in Chicago are on par with the drug gangs in the UK and Russia? Sen. Durban, isn't it true that in the UK, where citizens are practically gun less that Homicides have increased 89% in the past 10 years and the police now carry sub-machine guns on routine patrol? Isn't it true Senator that in England and Scotland, gun smuggling is second only to drug smuggling? Is that a no comment I hear?

Sen. Cruz claims these gun restrictions would strip people of their constitutional rights. Hupp says,"I can't begin to get across to you how incredibly frustrating it is to sit there, like a fish in a barrel, and wait for it to be your turn, with no hope of defending yourself," said Hupp, now a Republican Texas state official and gun rights advocate. She added, "The only thing the gun laws did that day was prevent good people from protecting themselves."(forbidding carrying a gun in a texas restaurant)-----How would back ground checks strip any law abiding citizen of their constitutional rights? As for Hupp, it seems her problem was Texas law not background checks. She's a state official, why isn't she working with the GOP controlled state government to return her gun rights back to her? An assault rifle ban isn't going to happen, so checks are really the only issue. I fail to understand why anyone is against background checks, enlighten me as to why? I own a 15 round semi-auto rifle and shotgun.

I mean, if the guy wants to defy our people, our basic social compact, and negate the constitution, it would be nice to see him man up and say that to the less intelligent of us out there. Honesty or no, I don't see what all you people are up in arms about. He owns his choices, you own yours. That holds true for everyone. If you follow him into rebellion, or anyone, then that's the ticket you chose to buy.
