Nothing like starting with the conclusion and working backwards.

Of course they'll challenge. It's their only chance of profiting off the name.

Denial vs the facts. If Paterno did NOT know what Sandusky was doing when he was 'on the job', Paterno was not doing his job competently and should have been fired for that.

While it is understandable for the need of a cover-up, it's still inexcusable.

So in conclusion, the only person who told the truth is Sandusky? If Paterno didn't tell the administration not to tell authorities, Paterno knowing that the administration didn't than why didn't Paterno? BECAUSE HE WAS PART OF THE COVER-UP.

I am sure that the family means well in terms of protecting Paterno's legacy but this just will make it worse for them. Must be getting awfully bad legal advice and/or their feet are just not based in reality.

The damage has long since been done. It cannot ever be undone. At this point it's obvious the only thing that matters to Paterno family is to clear the old man's name. That will never happen. As well, Penn State football will be forever and indellibly linked with this awful episode which the Penn State University and football program systemically allowed to happen.

The Paterno family and the Penn State football fans are showing once again that they just did not get the point of why the school and the NCAA were forced to do what they did. The "Football Coach Is God" mentality cuts both ways here: you can't say that Joe Paterno is above scrutiny and so holy that he is devoid of any responsibility for the actions of his top assistant (and inaction by his superiors) and also say that he didn't know what was going on despite warnings that led to Jerry Sandusky's dismissal in 1996.

I doubt that the Joe Paterno's family had time to revisit the 430 interviews cited in the Freeh report. Though not all of them chastise Joe Paterno, he had made enough enemies in his stay at Penn State that the Sandusky wrongdoings were only the "icing on the cake" for most serious faculty there, in love with their jobs, no college football.

The Freeh report, prepared by the personal friend of several of the board, a report made with the authors being barred from talking to the main parties because of the ongoing criminal investigations, was wrong?!?.. No way. I am shocked that anyone would even question a report where first hand information from the parties involved was unable to be used. And from someone with the nickname "Mr Politic"? No way.
