The Islamic extremists seem much more common than their "extreme" label would imply. I don't see any effort from Egypt, Iran, or Saudi Arabia to squelch these attacks.

More that a little "blowback" here for France and the US. Toppling Gadhafi was a poorly thought-out adventure. Most of these fighters are Tuareg tribesmen, who live in the Sahara across Mali, Libya, Algeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso. They've been continually antagonized and mistreated by everyone except Gadhafi. They've fought several wars against the governments of Mali and Niger. Of course, France and the US support corrupt and repressive governments in those nations, because there are large uranium mines there--right in Tuareg country--and the corrupt local governments let us do whatever we want there.

So, yet another neo-colonial trouble spot in our endless global pursuit of resources to dominate. Empire is never-ending and tiring work.
