When we had Dick Such, Andie was the next big thing. We'll see what happens. Now Cuellar is the next big thing. Fans always want the next guy.

Why are surgeries postponed when the season ended in September (August for all practical purposes)?

I'm not sure about Anderson, as a friend who was a pitcher thinks he's average at best. The TWINS way though as far as protecting pitchers doesn't seem to be working as we have had so many injuries. The pitch count doesn't seem to be protecting anyone. But, what do guys like Nolan Ryan, Blyleven and Morris know about pitch counts?

I'm sticking with my prediction that Gardenhire and Anderson are gone by June 15. I mean, look at this pitching staff! Oh, and for all of the accolades laid on Anderson in this article, the writer forgot to mention that Anderson had Blackburn, Slowey, Liriano, Mays, Marquis, Slama, Delaney, Lohse, Romero, Balfour, Adam Johnson, Garza, Bonser, Mijares, even R.A. Dickey, as guys under his tutelage who either flopped completely, had a good initial season then regressed, or left and had success elsewhere. That's quite a list of failures versus successes.

Right on FJBARROWS. Santana had too much talent for even Anderson to screw up. Anderson absolutely ruined Liriano by trying to turn him into a pitch to contact pitcher. It will be interesting to see what happens to him in Pittsburgh.

The twins don't turn pitchers into pitch to contact pitchers. What can you do with pitchers that don't throw in the mid 90s.

@pamheiden: some pitchers who don't throw in the mid-90s do, in fact, miss bats. See, e.g., Weaver, Jered; Giants, SF; Marcum, Shaun. That said, FJbarrows raises a good point: most (nt all, mind you) Twins pitchers of the last decade simply haven't been very good. But is that on the GM or the pitching coach? Even if it's on the GM, I think Gardenhire and Anderson still have to go. You can't lose 198 of the last 327 played and not make wholesale changes (including members of the FO), particularly when this year is likely not to be any better than the last 2.

"Anderson absolutely ruined Liriano by trying to turn him into a pitch to contact pitcher"...Are you referring to Anderson's efforts to get Liriano to throw his pitches somewhere near the strike zone?.....It IS true that pitching behind the hitters usually makes contact difficult, but that's NOT a good thing.
