Interesting. I don't see any hit pieces on the President of the ACLU or other civil rights organization leaders who, for instance, lobby for stricter enforcement of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth Amendments etc., which means the dismissal of thousands of criminal cases against violent recidivists and sex offenders on technicalities. These individuals fight on behalf of a "greater good." The right to protect oneself, his family, and his community against violent criminals is every bit as fundamental as the civil rights defended by other individuals who aren't thrown under the bus like Wayne LaPierre is on a daily basis.

Gee, seems I've been lied to. I was led to believe that ONLY "Progressives" were well-read policy wonks. And here I find that the NRA Pres is not some illiterate drooling Redneck after all! So, what do you suppose he bases his "fiery talk" on, then? How about knowledge of the Constitution and Bill of Rights! How about knowledge of history! How about knowledge of law! How about knowledge of *gasp* how firearms really-actually work! This guy Wayne seems quite better-qualified to speak on the subject than the gun-phobes who only speak from uneducated emotion.

I own a rifle. (Legally.) I respect our country's constitution, and have a fair knowledge of our history. I don't have good answers to all the issues we face. But I do know this: neither this guy nor the NRA speaks for me.

Don't you just love regionguy's post, claims to own a rifle, so somehow this makes him an expert on the 2nd amendment. I also noted that there is not one mention in the story of Wayne's prediction that if BO was reelected, the he would come for your guns. Well guess what, he got reelected and now he is after your guns. Remember, first come registration the confiscation.

I went to every hearing and testified at the capital. The extreme NRA members DO NOT CARE about the gun violence problem we have. Believe me I witnessed it, they would shake their head, smile, and laugh during some of the testimony. And you can also see it in most of the comments listed in all these articles relating to the gun problems. It's all about me, myself and I; and MY GUN! Common sense citizens need to step up and be active in the gun violence problem we have! Now! You are the majority! P.S. I'm a gun owner.

The NRA and the second amendment ignore the secondary marketplace legal and illegal sales of semiautomatic firearms and large capacity ammo clips. The NRA's advocating of firearms purchasing for decades is a part of the reason that the marketplace is supersaturated with firearms leading to indiscriminate sales. The marketplace is regularly propped up by paranoid NRA members claiming that the gov't will come around and confiscate your hunting firearms and ammo. Of course this will never happen. It is not the citizens without firearms that are the problem. With tongue in cheek I would suggest that Mr LaPierre should be the first NRA member to have his head examined for the mental stability certification that he advocates is needed for others to qualify for firearms owneship.
