You can teach the concept of choice without actually encouraging certain behaviors. Plus with child statutory laws on the books, I would be afraid of litigation concerns if I were the school. This isn't college where everyone attending is at least legal to get under the sheets with whoever they want to on campus.

Good for them. I'm sure we'll have the "They're just encouraging them to have sex" comments but who cares. They will be having sex anyway! Do people not remember being teenagers? Do people really think their kids aren't doing what they did? They are! Accept it and do the right thing by keeping them safe. Condoms help with that.

This is why society and this country are in trouble. Why not teach morality and responsibility? Trust students to do the right thing and protect themselves if need be. Giving out condoms is tacit approval of poor decision making and behavior. The lack of morals will doom this country, just as it did the Roman Empire. History will repeat. I find this school administration disgusting. They are increasing, not decreasing, the problem.

Hopefully these condoms make it into every inner-city school that has it's doors open...The stats don't lie about where the highest concentrations of unwanted teenage pregnancies happen and without proper parenting or parents at all, many of these kids are walking on a mine field every day of their lives...

Giving a kid a condom will not encourage sex, same with teaching safe sex. Kids see sex on TV, during movies, and on the internet all the time and that, along with hormones, is what encourages children to have sex. People in high school are not mature enough to understand the consequences of having sex without a condom, and that is why kids are getting pregnant. Teaching them young and giving them protection is the best way to stop it. Fun fact: Teen pregnancy is highest in areas where they teach abstinence only.

The story states, "The condoms will be given out to any student who requests one". ONE? So what do they do tomorrow? We can't prevent problems associated with sexual behavior by encouraging sexual behavior. I believe it was Forrest Gump that said, "Stupid is as stupid does." I believe he also said, "That's all I have to say about that."

They might not be able to read or write very well, but these kids sure have mastered their sexuality. Congrats to the Augsburg-Fairview school administration, working hard to position our kids to compete against math students in Singapore and China.

Why did we need to offer free birth control through ObamaCare? Just visit a high school and get it!

"Giving a kid a condom will not encourage sex" Mayb as well give them alcohol if that is the case. That certainly would encourage them to drink.
